Silver Lining

Sometimes life throws you a curveball. It’s always a bit unexpected and leaves you shaken up, but it’s always interesting to see what comes out of it. There’s a silver lining in everything, and for me it was discovering the world. In the past four years I’ve enjoyed a fresh pint of Guinness in Ireland, seen the Eiffel Tower light up the night in Paris, marveled at the works of Gaudi in Barcelona, gone for a swim off the island of Santorini (a little panic ensuing), devoured a ‘wet burger’ at 5am in Istanbul, received an unwarranted ticket in Budapest and kayaked with whales in Alaska. I often wonder where my life would be today if it wasn’t for that once scary curveball.

I’m definitely not your traditional traveler. Sure I’ll try and make it to all the hot spots, but I’ll also be the one who goes down that dark alley in search of the most authentic local meal. I’m the traveler who will fall in love with a hot Grecian man serving me coffee on the ferry to Santorini (his name was George and how else was I going to entertain myself for a 4hr ferry?). I’m also the traveler who got into an unmarked white van in Istanbul (…for real). I surprise myself at times at how far I’ve come. I continue to explore and grow and my hope is that by sharing these experiences, you too will feel empowered to start a new journey of your own.

Oh, and as far as Three Little Birds Travel, it’s a dedication to the many travels with my sister and  for those who follow us in spirit. Don’t think I don’t notice the flickering lights or you walking through my crusie cabin…(shiver).
